An inverter changes the direct current (DC) electricity from the panels into alternating current (AC) that can power home appliances. Battery storage is only needed if backup power is required when the sun isn't shining. Wiring safely delivers the solar electricity to a home's circuit breaker box. Various mounting systems securely fasten the panels in place to receive optimal sunlight exposure.

Economics of Home Solar Installations
The upfront costs of a residential solar system have decreased significantly over the past decade, making solar energy affordable for more homeowners. However, the economical decision depends on factors like available tax credits and energy rates in each state and utility territory. A typical 6 kW system installed in the U.S. costs between $15,000 to $25,000, offset by federal tax credits of 26% of the total as of 2022. Some states and localities provide additional rebates or incentives. Homeowners also benefit from avoided electricity costs, as the system generates power they would normally pay the utility for during daylight hours. Within 7-10 years, total electricity savings often exceed installation costs. Solar Power Bank future energy price inflation also improves the long-term financial outcomes for solar adopters. As technologies continue advancing, the simple payback period will shorten further.
