@earthdivas
I'm Ed Edmundson, the founder of Earth Divas, a dedicated fair trade company focusing entirely on providing women in the developing world with opportunities to earn fair wages. Unlike most businesses, our primary aim is not profit-driven. Instead, we strive to compensate artisans to the best of our ability. Moreover, in the event of any profits, we channel 100% back to these skilled individuals.
No Salary: As the owner, I forgo a salary and any compensation. Since our inception in 2004, I've contributed both money and time to nurture the business. My wife Tina's income from Marriott covers our living expenses. The funds I earned in the internet industry from 1995 to 2001 have all been reinvested in Earth Divas.
No Overhead: Earth Divas operates efficiently with only me as the sole employee. Warehousing, packing, shipping, and customer service are expertly handled by RML (RMLsite.com) for a nominal monthly fee. All our sales reps operate remotely, earning less than they could elsewhere because they believe in our mission. Our vendors extend significant discounts, aligning with our shared purpose.
Highest Quality: Our commitment is to offer the widest range of impeccably designed, high-quality products. To keep costs in check, we opt for sea shipping. I make regular visits to Nepal to enhance designs and ensure consistent quality.
Connection to Artisans: We aim to bridge the gap between customers in the USA and artisans in Nepal, showcasing the direct impact of their purchases. While our hangtags are a starting point, we plan significant improvements in 2013 through social media and the internet.
Tailoring School: Recognizing the gender disparity in the craft industry, particularly in Nepal, we established a tailoring school for women in 2011. With a leased building, sewing machines, and expert guidance, we empowered women to attend classes for six months. Now, our focus is on securing jobs for these women within our artisan community.
Nepal: Our primary focus is Nepal, where our family will relocate in July 2013. By honing our artisan production capabilities, we intend to make a substantial impact on the lives of hundreds of women. While partnering with organizations like SpeedTrust and Creative Handicrafts in India, our long-term vision is to extend our reach to other countries.
Your Customers: USA consumers prioritize companies and products that contribute to meaningful causes. When price and quality align, customers choose products that contribute to making the world a better place.
Fair Trade Federation: Proud members of the Fair Trade Federation, we encourage support for all members and advocate for the benefits of purchasing fair trade products.
Thank you for supporting Earth Divas, the women of Nepal, and the broader fair trade movement. You are the key to our success, and we are committed to being the best supplier you have.
