Depending on certain factors, including the reason and length of the delay, United Airlines provides compensation for flight delays. If the delay is caused by maintenance or staffing problems that the airline controls, passengers may be entitled to reimbursement. Meal coupons for three-hour or longer delays and hotel stays for overnight delays are examples of compensation. Travelers from the EU may additionally be eligible for further compensation under legislation such as EU261 for delays exceeding three hours on overseas flights. However, United usually isn't eligible for reimbursement for weather-related delays or uncontrollable circumstances.
